Why recovery matters as much as the workout
After a hard session your body does not switch off with the last rep. Muscles get micro-damage, the nervous system stays wired, and sleep quality and hormones matter for the next training day more than people think. Spa is not a substitute for sleep, food or a proper warm-up – it is an extra way to relax, improve how you feel subjectively, and spend time without screens or deadlines.
For long-term recovery, sleep and nutrition usually matter more than a single spa evening. Public health agencies stress that good sleep supports overall health – the NHLBI (NIH) explains why sleep matters for the body, and the CDC summarises sleep and health. In sports medicine, systematic reviews examine links between sleep and performance in athletes (e.g. a review of sleep interventions).
At Lázně Pramen Dejvická we focus on privacy: tubs in separate rooms, no queues, an electric fireplace and a wheat straw bed after the bath. For a step-by-step walkthrough of a visit, see our beer bath guide – the same idea applies to the wine ritual.
Heat, water and the nervous system: what research suggests
Heat and immersion have long been used for relaxation and switching off. Sports and wellness research stress that perceived recovery and lower stress support training consistency. Industry reports from the Global Wellness Institute describe growing interest in preventive health and spa as part of lifestyle. We do not promise “metabolic boost” or “toxin flushing” in a marketing sense – honestly, a warm bath, massage and silence help many people recover after a desk week or a run in Prague. Physiology research also looks at short-term responses to warm water after exercise – for example a peer-reviewed study describes acute changes after hot water immersion following resistance training (PMC). In a spa setting this is not a lab protocol; it is warmth, quiet and subjective relaxation.

Beer bath after training: what is in the water and why guests love it
Our beer bath is an oak or larch tub with Žatec hops, malt and brewer's yeast, unlimited Bernard beer on tap, and rest on a wheat straw bed. Sessions take place in private rooms with an electric fireplace – for example Golden Spring, Ruby Spring or Emerald Spring. The tub and whirlpool follow our house rules: up to 30 minutes in the tub; the whirlpool runs automatically for up to 20 minutes – guests do not start equipment or change the sequence themselves. After the bath, rest by the fireplace on the straw bed in the same room.
Yeast and malt are part of Czech beer tradition; B vitamins in yeast are often discussed for skin and hair. We position the bath as deep relaxation and a pleasant contrast after training, not medical therapy.
Wine bath: polyphenols, scent, a different kind of unwind
Our wine bath uses red wine, grape extracts, honey and lavender in warm water, plus a bottle of wine (red or white) and the same private room with fireplace and straw. Polyphenols and resveratrol from grapes are studied for skin and oxidative stress – in spa terms it is mainly warmth, colour and a calm scent. After races or a long gym block many guests prefer this “softer” wine scenario to the bolder beer one.

Massage in the salt cave: relax and sports options
Separate from the tub area, our massage in the salt cave offers relaxation massage and sports massage, natural oils, and work on back, neck and full body. This is not medical rehabilitation – professional massage in a calm setting, often chosen after running, skiing or strength training. If you combine a bath with a massage, the order is agreed when you book.
“Two in one” combo: two tubs in one visit
Training with a partner or want beer and wine in one evening? See Two in one: two tubs side by side in one room, 2–4 guests, each in their own tub. A practical way to try both formats without a second visit. Full overview: all procedures.
Gift vouchers, contact and booking
Gift for someone who lives by start/finish lines? Gift vouchers for Lázně Pramen are available online. Questions about timing – contact. Book a tub or massage via online booking on the site.
When to see a doctor, not a spa
Acute injury, fever, swelling, unbearable joint pain or suspected fracture – see a doctor, not a tub. Our spa is wellness and rest, not a substitute for medical rehab. If you have chronic heart or skin conditions or are pregnant, consult a specialist before visiting.
