Why take your hen party or stag do to a spa

The hen party or stag do has a reputation, and it is not a flattering one: the morning after tends to be clearer than the night itself, a blur of pub crawl, shouting over the music, queueing at the bar, a taxi at one in the morning and a group photo in which nobody is quite recognisable. Yet the point of the tradition was always something gentler. It is a chance to stop, just before a big step, with the people who matter most - to talk properly, to laugh, and to come away with a story the bride or groom will still enjoy telling ten years on. A private spa in Prague 6 offers exactly that space, minus the noise that usually drowns such an evening out.

Lázně Pramen has been around since 2008, and privacy is the whole idea. Each group has its own room, with handmade tubs fitted with a whirlpool, an electric fireplace that gives off a warm glow, and a bed of loose, heated wheat straw. For the length of your booking, nobody else walks in. No strangers at the next table, no competing to be heard - just your friends, warm water and time for the thing a night out rarely allows: actually talking to each other.

It is only fair to say up front what you will not find here. We do not run party programmes, and we do not provide decorations, music or party props. What we offer is a quiet setting, a bath with a natural blend, beer on tap and plenty of time to unwind. If your group wants a wild night with a host and an itinerary, we are not the right choice. If you want a send-off people remember for the right reasons, this is an ideal start to the evening - or the whole of it.

The Czech Republic has a long spa tradition, and the beer bath is its younger, more playful relative, combining two Czech traditions: the warm bath and good beer. And because you can also book a wine bath, the friends who have no time for beer are looked after too. Hen parties and stag dos alike work in the same spirit: in warm water instead of a packed bar.

How many guests fit, and how to split them between rooms

Start with the simplest question: how many of us can be there at once? The answer is eight guests at the same time, across three rooms with tubs. Each has its own capacity and its own character, so the group can divide itself according to who wants to share the water with whom. The salt cave can be booked separately for massages in the same slot, which means anyone who would rather skip the tub is still part of the evening.

  • Golden Spring (Zlatý pramen): 2-4 guests, two oak tubs with whirlpool, the only room with two tubs.
  • Ruby Spring (Rubínový pramen): 1-2 guests, a single larch tub with whirlpool, and the most intimate of the rooms.
  • Emerald Spring (Smaragdový pramen): 1-2 guests, a V.I.P. room with a whirlpool larch tub and a cedar phyto-sauna.
  • Sapphire Spring (Safírový pramen): 1-2 guests at a time, a salt cave with no tub, set up for massages, which can be booked at the same time as the baths.

The arithmetic is straightforward. A group of four fits into Golden Spring on its own. Six people take Golden Spring (4) and Ruby Spring (2). Eight means a full house: Golden Spring, Emerald Spring and Ruby Spring all at once. We cannot put more than eight guests in the tubs simultaneously, but larger groups work well with staggered start times - one group at 17:00, say, and a second at 19:00. Anyone waiting for the later start can order a massage in the salt cave in advance.

Emerald Spring has one more trick up its sleeve. As well as the standard beer or wine bath, it hosts the V.I.P. Beer SPA package (from €293 per booking) and the V.I.P. Wine SPA package (from €326 per booking), each for 1-2 guests and lasting 2.5 hours. Both begin in the cedar phyto-sauna, a cedar barrel in which the body is warmed by herbal steam while the head stays outside. If the bride or groom wants some time alone with one person - the maid of honour, perhaps, or the best man - this is precisely the format.

Beer, wine or both: what the group chooses

No two groups are alike, and not everyone will want the same drink, so it helps to know exactly what is on offer. The beer bath uses real craft beer, Petrovické zlato, along with Žatec hops, brewer's yeast and malt, and the blend goes into the water right in front of you. A beer bath in one tub costs from €148 per booking, and the price is the same whether one guest uses the tub or two share it. Unlimited light and dark beer on tap is included, with snacks.

The wine bath brings together red wine, grape seed and grape skin extracts, wine yeast, honey, herbal extracts and French lavender flowers. In one tub it costs from €201 per booking, and waiting in the room is a bottle of wine - red or white, as you prefer - with a fruit and cheese platter. Both baths can be booked in Ruby Spring, Emerald Spring and Golden Spring.

For a group of up to four, Golden Spring is the room to look at first, with its two tubs side by side. Here you can have beer in both, wine in both, or Two in One, with one beer tub and one wine tub. With two tubs the price rises with the number of guests, but it is always a single price for the whole booking, never per person:

  • Beer + beer in two tubs: €190 for 2 guests, €242 for 3 guests, €283 for 4 guests.
  • Two in One, beer + wine: €238 for 2 guests, €278 for 3 guests, €307 for 4 guests.
  • Wine + wine in two tubs: €268 for 2 guests, €354 for 3 guests, €367 for 4 guests.

With Two in One you get both: unlimited beer with snacks, plus a bottle of wine with a fruit and cheese platter. If half the group wants beer and the other half wine, this is the one to book. If everyone wants the same, choose two beer tubs or two wine tubs.

How the 90 minutes in a private room unfold

A classic beer or wine bath gives you 90 minutes in the room, and the time has a clear rhythm. It is worth knowing in advance, so the group has a feel for when to talk, when to drift off and when to reach for a glass. We cover the whole sequence in more detail in what happens during a beer bath and what happens during a wine bath; here is the short version for planning a party.

  1. Arrive 10-15 minutes before your booking starts, ideally all together.
  2. Shower in the room before the bath.
  3. Around 10 minutes of preparation, while a specialist adds the natural blend to the water in front of you.
  4. 20-30 minutes in the tub at 35-38 °C with the whirlpool running - usually about 20 minutes, though anyone who wants to can stay for 30.
  5. Roughly 50 minutes resting on the heated bed of loose wheat straw by the electric fireplace.

At 35-38 °C, the water sits close to body temperature: 35 °C just below it, 38 °C just above. That makes it warm rather than hot, so the bath feels soothing, not draining. A wooden step helps you over the rim, and the automatic whirlpool gently massages the body while everyone chats.

For a group, the rest on the straw may be the best part of the evening. Warmth, low light and the glow of the fireplace do something to conversation: it wanders away from seating plans and towards the stories nobody tells on a loud night out. We recommend not rinsing the blend off for about two hours afterwards. So shower before the bath, not after.

One practical note for organisers: our terms state that if you are more than 15 minutes late, the booking may be shortened or cancelled without a refund. If your group is coming from different corners of Prague, set the meeting time a little earlier - at Hradčanská metro station, for instance, about two minutes' walk from us at Dejvická 255/18.

Beer on tap and warm water: how much is enough

Every room with a tub has its own tap with light and dark Petrovické zlato, and guests pour it themselves. For a group, that is a pleasant kind of freedom: no waiting to be served, everyone pours when they like, and with a beer bath the beer is unlimited. Which is exactly why it is worth saying plainly that warm water and alcohol are not a pairing to overdo. A spa send-off is meant to be a relaxed evening, not a contest over who can drink the most.

Heat and alcohol both widen the blood vessels and both cost the body fluid, so alcohol can take hold faster in a warm tub than at a pub table. We go into this further in alcohol in the spa: how much is right. For a group evening, it boils down to a few simple habits:

  • Keep to one or two beers or glasses of wine across the whole visit: sip slowly in the tub and save the main enjoyment for the rest on the straw.
  • Have a glass of water with every drink.
  • Do not arrive tipsy from another bar: under our terms we can refuse service to anyone visibly intoxicated, without a refund.
  • Do not come on an empty stomach: eat something light beforehand.
  • Anyone who feels unwell should get out and move to the straw bed - nobody has to last the full 30 minutes.

For whoever is organising the party, this is something of a relief. Instead of keeping an eye on the friend who gets dangerously cheerful after the third bar, you have an evening where the pace is naturally slow and everyone remembers what happened. Beer here is about flavour and ritual, not fuel. And if you want the bride or groom to take away more than a good mood, treat it as a tasting: light and dark side by side, slowly, with conversation.

On age: our services are for guests aged 18 and over. Guests aged 15-17 may come only with a legal guardian, and under-15s are not admitted.

The salt cave and massages for those who would rather skip the tub

Not everyone in the group has to get into a tub. If you would rather have a massage, perhaps after weeks of wedding planning, there is Sapphire Spring, a salt cave lined with ten tonnes of salt of three kinds: rock salt, Dead Sea salt and Himalayan salt. Salt lamps fill the space with soft, warm light.

While the rest of the group is in the tubs, 1-2 guests at a time can have a massage in the salt cave. Massages must be ordered in advance. There is a single massage table, so if two guests come, the massages run one after the other, and whoever is waiting relaxes in a comfortable armchair in the cave itself. Nobody sits alone in a corridor, and the wait becomes a quiet part of the evening in its own right.

These are the massages on offer, again priced per booking:

  • Relaxation massage, 30 minutes, from €33: back, neck and shoulders.
  • Full-body relaxation massage, 60 minutes, from €50: Swedish technique with natural oils.
  • Sports massage, 60 minutes, from €75: deeper work on the muscles, for active people.

The half-hour relaxation massage concentrates on the back, neck and shoulders only; for the whole body you need the full hour. If you have spent recent months shifting furniture and hauling boxes, go for the sports massage. If your shoulders have locked up over the seating plan, the half hour on your back, neck and shoulders will do. The massage therapist adjusts technique and pressure to each person.

The salt cave also suits groups of more than eight. While the first half of the party is in the tubs, those waiting for a later start can have a massage booked in advance, 1-2 guests at a time, rather than killing time in a café. It is also a good choice for anyone in the group who would simply prefer a massage to a bath: they are still part of the evening, just on the massage table instead of in the tub. One thing to keep in mind: the health restrictions in our terms apply to massages just as they do to baths, so in pregnancy or with a heart condition, for example, a massage is not suitable either, not only the tub.

An example: what a party for ten friends might look like

Picture a hypothetical group of ten friends, bride included, who want to spend a Saturday afternoon together. Eight are keen on the tubs; two would prefer a massage. Here is one way to plan it that fits the capacity and leaves nobody out. It is an illustration, not a description of a real group.

Everyone meets at 16:45 at Hradčanská metro station, a two-minute walk from Dejvická 255/18, so the group arrives with the recommended 10-15 minutes to spare. At 17:00 the baths begin in all three rooms with tubs at once. In Golden Spring, four friends settle in with Two in One, beer + wine, at €307 for 4 guests - two sharing the beer tub, two the wine tub. In Ruby Spring, the bride and her sister take a beer bath, from €148 per booking. In Emerald Spring, two wine lovers enjoy a wine bath, from €201 per booking, with a bottle of white and a fruit and cheese platter.

Meanwhile, in Sapphire Spring, the remaining two friends have their massages: first a one-hour full-body relaxation massage, then a half-hour relaxation massage for the back, neck and shoulders. Whoever is not on the table rests in the armchair in the salt cave. Each room is paid for separately, and each price covers the whole booking for that room.

And if all ten wanted a tub? Then the group splits into staggered starts. Eight guests begin at 17:00 and the other two at 19:00, in Ruby Spring, for example. Since we recommend leaving the blend on the skin for about two hours after the bath, a dinner the group arranges for itself fits in nicely afterwards. We are open until 23:00 at weekends, so even the later start leaves plenty of breathing room.

The example shows the real advantage of a spa send-off: the evening has a clear shape, yet nobody is under pressure. The bride gets an hour and a half of genuine rest just when she needs it most, and the group gets a story that will come up again at the wedding - for all the right reasons.

Booking for a group and securing your date

A group needs several rooms at the same time, so get in touch as early as you can. A single room is easy to reserve online, but for groups we suggest calling +420 728 059 770 or emailing info@laznepramen.cz. Together we will check which rooms are free at your chosen time and work out whether everyone fits at once or whether staggered starts make more sense. You will find our other details on the contact page.

A few points from our terms that are worth knowing as a group:

  • Your booking is confirmed and binding once our confirmation email arrives.
  • For groups and V.I.P. packages we may ask for a deposit or full prepayment.
  • Cancelling more than 48 hours ahead is free, with a full refund; 24-48 hours ahead costs 50% of the price; less than 24 hours ahead, or not turning up, costs 100%.
  • Changing your date is free with at least 48 hours' notice, subject to availability, by email or phone.
  • Do not bring your own alcohol or food, and there is no smoking anywhere on the premises, e-cigarettes included.

The terms in force at the moment your booking is confirmed always apply. You can read them in full in our terms and conditions, which also include the complete list of health restrictions.

If you would like to surprise the bride or groom, you can give a gift voucher instead of a booking. There is a voucher for a set amount, where the recipient chooses both the treatment and the date, and a voucher for a specific treatment, where they simply pick the date. The voucher code is entered when booking. For a small keepsake, our beer cosmetics are on sale at reception: beer shampoo, hair conditioner, body peeling, body scrub and bath salt.

We are open Monday to Friday 10:00-22:00 and at weekends 10:00-23:00. Browse all our treatments, decide who goes in which room, and get in touch. We will gladly help you put together a send-off that people remember for the right reasons.
