Brewer's yeast in the tub: not a supplement, but a treatment

When people think of brewer's yeast and B vitamins, the first association is tablets, powders, smoothies. But at Lázně Pramen, yeast isn't eaten. It's added to the tub – right in front of you, into a 1,000-litre oak or larch tub filled with warm water at 35–38°C.

This is a fundamentally different delivery method. When you take B vitamins orally, they pass through the GI tract, partially break down, and are absorbed systemically. When yeast is dissolved in warm water – the vitamins penetrate transdermally, directly into the upper layers of the skin, bypassing digestion. Warm water opens pores, the jacuzzi boosts microcirculation, and active compounds are absorbed more effectively.

A study published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics confirms: water-soluble vitamins (including B-group) can penetrate through the stratum corneum at 37–40°C – exactly the range of our tub.

B vitamins through the skin: how it works

Brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) are living microorganisms containing the full B-vitamin complex: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), and biotin (B7). When yeast enters warm water, cell membranes break down and vitamins are released into the solution.

What happens next:

B2 (riboflavin) – involved in cellular respiration of the skin. A study in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology showed that topical application of riboflavin accelerates epidermal regeneration and reduces inflammatory processes.

B5 (pantothenic acid) – the primary "moisturiser". Its derivative – dexpanthenol (panthenol) – is used in most healing creams. In the tub, B5 penetrates the skin in its natural form, improving barrier function and moisture retention.

B6 (pyridoxine) – regulates sebum production. Relevant for oily and acne-prone skin: B6 helps normalise sebaceous gland activity.

Biotin (B7) – the "beauty vitamin". Supports keratin synthesis – the main protein of skin, hair, and nails. After a yeast bath, the skin feels smoother and firmer.

What exactly goes into the tub: the full composition

Lázně Pramen's beer tub contains more than just yeast. The full composition:

Žatec hops – hop essential oils have sedative and anti-inflammatory properties. Hops soothe irritated skin and relax the nervous system. More about hops in our article on the healing properties of hops.

Malt – enriches water with carbohydrates, proteins, mineral compounds, and organic acids. Malt nourishes the skin and creates a soft, enveloping water texture.

Brewer's yeast – source of vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, B7, plus zinc, selenium, and amino acids. The main "working" ingredient for the skin.

Czech Bernard beer – real beer is added to the tub for complete composition. And next to the tub – a tap with unlimited cold Bernard for you.

Everything is added to the tub in front of you – you see every ingredient. The tub is disinfected and refilled before each guest.

Effect on skin: from hydration to regeneration

A meta-analysis in the Journal of Clinical Medicine confirms: balneotherapy (therapeutic baths) at 35–40°C improves skin barrier function, reduces inflammation, and accelerates healing. Combined with brewer's yeast, the effect is enhanced by B vitamins.

Hydration. Panthenol (B5) from yeast penetrates the epidermis and binds water. Skin stays soft and nourished for 2–3 days after the treatment – that's why we recommend not washing off the composition for 2 hours.

Regeneration. Riboflavin (B2) accelerates skin cell renewal. Combined with zinc from yeast – helps with minor damage, irritation, acne.

Protection. The antioxidant complex (selenium + B vitamins) neutralises free radicals. According to Dermato-Endocrinology, topical application of B-group vitamins reduces oxidative stress on skin – one of the main causes of premature ageing.

Relaxation. Hops + warm water + jacuzzi – a triple effect. Hops lower cortisol levels, warm water dilates blood vessels, the jacuzzi relaxes muscles. After the bath – rest on a wheat straw bed by the fireplace.

How to boost the effect: tips before and after

Before the bath. Take a shower – it's in your room. Clean skin without creams or oils absorbs vitamins better.

In the tub. 20–30 minutes is the optimal time. The jacuzzi starts automatically and enhances B vitamin penetration via microcirculation.

After the bath. Don't wash off the composition for at least 2 hours. Yeast and hops continue working on the skin. The soft, nourished skin effect lasts 2–3 days.

Massage before the bath. Adding a massage warms up muscles, speeds up circulation, and helps the skin absorb vitamins even more effectively. In the V.I.P. Beer SPA, massage is already included.
