Why Christmas of all times needs a wellness ritual
In our imagination, Christmas looks like stillness, warmth and time spent together. The reality tends to be something else. December turns into a marathon of shopping, baking, cleaning, office parties and family obligations. The calendar fills with appointments that cannot be moved, and evenings dissolve into wrapping presents and hunting down the one gift still missing from the list. Little wonder that so many people enter the holidays more exhausted than they leave them. That is precisely why it makes sense to fold a ritual of calm into Advent on purpose - a moment when time slows and the body is finally given permission to rest.
A wellness ritual is not an added luxury; it is a counterweight to the rush. Heat, quiet and a little care for the body have a measurable effect on how we cope with stress. Research on passive heating shows that time spent in warm water activates the parasympathetic nervous system, slows the heart rate and settles the body into a state of release that lingers well after you climb out. In the season when the most is asked of us, a pause like that is rarer than any bought present.
In our private rooms in Prague's Dejvice district, such a ritual is easy to arrange. This is not a grand spectacle but an hour and a half in which nobody rings, nobody messages, and nothing is expected of you. A warm beer bath, low light, an electric fireplace with its gentle flicker of flame and warmed straw beneath your back - that is the whole recipe. Christmas deserves to be lived, not merely survived, and to live it we need moments where we genuinely stop. A festive wellness ritual is not an escape from Christmas but a way of getting it back the way it should be: slow, warm and yours.
The beer bath as a winter tradition
Beer belongs to a Czech winter much as mulled wine belongs to the Advent markets. The beer bath raises that bond from drinking to caring for the body. The tub is filled with warm water at 35-38 °C, and Saaz hops, brewer's yeast and malt are added right in front of you. The whole experience runs for roughly 90 minutes: the first twenty in the bath with its automatic whirlpool, the remaining fifty resting on a heated bed of straw. In the room you have your own tap of Petrovické zlato craft beer, to enjoy as freely as you like.
The active ingredients in the water are more than atmosphere. Hops contain flavonoids and bitter acids traditionally linked with calming, while the B vitamins from malt and yeast nourish and hydrate the skin. That is why we suggest not washing the extract off with soap for about two hours afterwards - your skin stays softer and saturated for a day or two. In winter, when skin is caught between dry central heating indoors and a biting wind outside, that is care worth having.
For a couple, the Rubínový pramen is ideal - our most intimate room, with a single larch tub, an electric fireplace and a straw bed. Prices start at 148 € per reservation, and you pay for the room, not per person. Arrive as a pair and the bath costs the same as it would for a single guest. Those who want to share the experience with friends or family choose the Zlatý pramen, with its two oak tubs, where a beer bath for four guests with two flowing baths starts from 190 € per reservation. The winter beer ritual works, then, for the solitary soul, the couple and the whole group gathered for the holidays alike.
A wine bath for a festive evening
If beer conjures the cosy comfort of a good pub, the wine bath is its more ceremonial sister. Into the warm water go red wine, grape seed extract, vine leaves, honey, herbs and French lavender blossoms. It smells like a wine cellar at the turn of the year and it feels like a ritual. The structure mirrors the beer version - twenty minutes in the whirlpool, fifty resting on warm straw - but the overall impression is softer and more romantic. A wine bath also comes with a bottle of wine right there in the room, so it turns easily into a festive evening for two.
Grape seeds are rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, prized in skincare for their influence on the suppleness and appearance of skin. Winter complexions welcome every dose of that care, and as with the beer bath, the rule holds: let the extract keep working, no vigorous scrubbing with soap the moment you finish. The reward is twofold - saturated skin and a deep release that stays with you all the way home into the Christmas bustle.
A wine bath for one or two guests in the Rubínový pramen starts at 201 € per reservation and includes a bottle of wine. Those wanting to share it with a larger party choose the two wine tubs in the Zlatý pramen, from 268 € for two to four guests. And for anyone who wants a bit of both, there is the combo - one tub with beer and one with wine in the Zlatý pramen, from 238 €, so each guest can pick their own mood. A festive evening where one of you soaks in beer and the other in wine has an unmistakable charm, and which tradition you choose this year is entirely up to you.
A V.I.P. experience to close the year
The end of the year is a fine excuse to treat yourself a little more generously. For moments like that there is the Smaragdový pramen - our V.I.P. room, home to all the premium packages. Alongside the larch tub with its whirlpool you will find a cedar phyto-barrel, a small cabin of Siberian cedar into which you sit up to the neck while your head stays outside. The herbal steam works on releasing tension without troubling you with heat in the face. This is not a Finnish sauna but a gentler, more aromatic affair.
The V.I.P. Beer SPA opens with fifteen minutes in the cedar phyto-barrel, continues with a relaxing massage or peeling for thirty minutes, then the beer bath, and finishes with a rest by the electric fireplace. Both pale and dark Petrovické zlato craft beer are on hand, along with refreshments. The whole ritual runs 2.5 to 3 hours and starts at 293 € for one or two guests. The V.I.P. Wine SPA follows the same structure but with a wine bath, a bottle of wine and a plate of fruit and cheese - starting from 326 €.
The most exclusive version is the Delux Wine SPA. It takes in the cedar phyto-barrel, a wine peeling, a wine wrap, a full-body massage with grape seed oil and a closing rest with a glass of wine and a cheese tartlet. It is the only package that comes with a bathrobe, and it is designed for a single guest, from 326 €. All V.I.P. packages are built for one person or a couple rather than a group - their point lies in privacy and undisturbed calm. If you are looking for a way to bid farewell to a demanding year and step into the new one rested and at ease, this is the route to take. Book through our list of procedures or directly online.
A gift voucher as the best present under the tree
Anyone who has ever wandered a shopping centre in despair three days before Christmas Eve knows how hard it is to pick a gift that will not be forgotten by mid-January. An experience plays in a different league from yet another jumper or set of mugs. A gift voucher to Lázně Pramen gives the recipient something no shop can hand over: time for themselves. And unlike a trinket bought in a hurry, it is remembered long after the carols have faded.
Our vouchers are digital, so you can buy one at the very last minute - no waiting for a parcel, no queues at the post office. The voucher is valid for twelve months, which means the recipient never has to rush and can choose a date whenever it suits them. It works nicely on a psychological level too: a gift that promises calm somewhere in February or March stretches the festive glow into the grey winter months, exactly when it is needed most.
The great advantage is flexibility. The recipient decides for themselves which procedure to use - whether a beer bath, a wine bath, a massage in the salt cave or one of the V.I.P. packages. No guessing at what they might want. You can frame the voucher as:
- a romantic present for your partner - a bath for two in the Rubínový pramen
- a thank-you to parents or grandparents for their help through the year
- a corporate gift for colleagues or clients
- a reward for yourself after a demanding December
A digital voucher takes only a few minutes to order and can be sent electronically or printed out as an old-fashioned envelope to slip under the tree. Whichever form you choose, you are sending a clear message: I wish you a moment to stop. And in December, that is one of the most valuable notes anyone can leave. A New Year reset for body and mind
Once the New Year's Eve fireworks fade, the new year arrives with resolutions and the urge to start again, better this time. Most resolutions aim at performance - more exercise, less sugar, more work on ourselves. Almost nobody resolves to rest. Yet calm and recovery are the foundation on which every other change has to stand. An overworked, exhausted person handles a new habit no better than an old one. A New Year reset, then, makes sense starting with self-care rather than another demand.
The Safírový pramen salt cave is made for exactly that kind of reset. Ten tonnes of salt - rock, Dead Sea and Himalayan - create an environment we traditionally associate with easing the airways and settling into deep release. It is not a bath but a quiet space of salt lamps and a massage table. This is where we place our massages: a relaxing one from 33 € for 30 minutes, a full-body relaxing massage from 50 € for 60 minutes, and a sports massage from 75 € for 60 minutes for those needing deeper work on the muscles after the winter lull.
There is also apparatus lymphatic drainage, 45 minutes from 23 €, which supports the lymphatic system and helps the body detoxify after the holiday feasting. We offer this procedure on its own; it is not combined with a bath in the same visit. If you want to start the year genuinely clean, pair the salt cave with a massage and give yourself a whole morning or early evening for nothing but you. The new year does not have to begin with the exhausting effort of catching up on everything at once. It can begin with warmth, quiet and touch that remind the body recovery matters as much as performance. Book a slot through our reservation page in the very first week of January, when things tend to be at their calmest.
How to plan a festive visit
Festive slots fill up fast, so it pays to plan ahead. You will find us at Dejvická 255/18 in Prague 6, just a two-minute walk from Hradčanská metro station. That accessibility matters - after a demanding day in the city centre you can reach us with no car, no hunt for parking and no stress. We are open on weekdays from 10:00 to 22:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 23:00, so you can pick a slot even on a festive evening, when most people finally have some time off.
Our capacity is thought through for parties of different sizes. For a couple, the Rubínový pramen is ideal; a group of four fits comfortably into the Zlatý pramen with its two tubs. If six of you arrive, we combine the Zlatý pramen for four with the Rubínový for two. A full house of eight guests we handle by splitting across three rooms at once. For larger corporate groups over eight, we stagger the start times - one group at 17:00, say, and another at 19:00 - so everyone still enjoys privacy and calm.
A few practical tips for planning your festive visit as smoothly as possible:
- book ahead - December and New Year slots disappear the fastest
- arrive with time to spare, so you can change and settle unhurried
- let the extract work on your skin - don't shower with soap right after the procedure
- add a massage in the salt cave to your bath for the complete experience
- for a corporate event or a group, get in touch in advance so we can coordinate everything
All procedures can be booked through the online reservation widget right on our website - it takes barely a minute. If you are unsure what to choose, look over the full overview of procedures, where you will find every option along with reservation prices. And if anything comes up, we are here for you on the contact page.
Book your own festive ritual
Christmas is about what truly matters - time spent with loved ones, slowing down, and caring for yourself and others. In the whirl of presents, gingerbread and obligations, that is easily forgotten. A festive wellness ritual is a way of getting that essence of Christmas back. Whether you choose a warm beer bath, a romantic wine bath, a premium V.I.P. experience in the Smaragdový pramen or a quiet massage in the salt cave, you are giving yourself a moment you will remember longer than most material gifts.
For yourself, book now, while the festive slots are still open. Our prices are always per reservation, not per person - a beer bath for a couple starts at 148 €, a wine bath with a bottle of wine at 201 €, and the premium packages from 293 €. For your nearest and dearest, the ideal choice is a digital gift voucher valid for twelve months, which they can redeem for any procedure whenever it suits them. It is a gift that neither goes stale nor gets lost in a drawer.
The new year, meanwhile, you can launch clean and calm - the Safírový pramen salt cave, a relaxing massage or lymphatic drainage will help the body recover after the holiday feasting and prepare for whatever comes next. Whether you arrive alone, as a pair or with the whole gang, we will find the right room and the right slot for you.
Don't wait until the rush swallows you whole. Reserve your own festive ritual of calm through our online booking form or reach out via the contact page. Give yourself a Christmas you actually live this year - slow, warm and simply yours. We look forward to welcoming you in Prague's Dejvice district.
