Why go to Prague for a wellness weekend at all

There are two ways to do Prague. The first is a marathon: Charles Bridge, the Castle, the Old Town Square, thousands of steps, crowded lanes and feet that quietly give up by evening. The second is slower, and it has quietly become the smarter choice over the past few years - arrive, settle into a calmer neighbourhood and give the weekend mostly to yourself. That is what a wellness weekend in Prague is really about. The point is not to tick everything off. It is to leave more rested than you arrived.

Most visitors head straight for the centre and miss the obvious: right beside the historic core lie districts that offer exactly what a restful stay needs - a gentler pace, greenery within reach, and prices that were never set for tourist rush hour. Dejvice, in Prague 6, is a textbook example. It is an elegant First Republic quarter two minutes from Hradčanská metro station, close enough to reach the centre in minutes, yet far enough from the crowds that you can actually unwind in the evening.

Our private spa rooms at Lázně Pramen form the natural heart of a weekend like this. You can build an entire itinerary around a beer or wine bath: a walk or a gallery in the morning, a soak and a massage in the afternoon, a good dinner nearby in the evening. In the paragraphs that follow we will show you how to shape two days so that they actually make sense - where to stay, what to taste, how to pair culture with rest, and what you will find waiting for you here in Dejvice.

This is not another list of monuments you "have to see". Quite the opposite. We want to make the case that a genuinely good wellness weekend in the capital rests on a single decision: plan less, but live the little you plan fully. And that ninety minutes in a warm tub laced with beer extract, in a quiet spa room, can do more for your body than a whole day spent shoulder to shoulder with the crowds.

What makes Prague such a good choice for a spa break

Prague brings a few advantages to a restful stay that you will struggle to find elsewhere. The first is scale. Unlike the sprawling capitals of Europe, the centre here is compact and stitched together by a dense web of metro and tram lines, so you move between your hotel, a gallery and the baths in a matter of minutes rather than hours. You do not have to build the whole day around one activity - a morning exhibition, an afternoon soak and an evening walk along the Vltava all fit comfortably into a single day without wearing you out.

The second advantage is the Czech spa tradition, which runs deeper than many people realise. Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně belong to Europe's cultural heritage, and here the culture of taking the waters is seen as a natural part of looking after your health, not an extravagant indulgence. Beer baths are a modern extension of that thinking - they marry heat therapy with the tradition of Czech brewing, itself recognised as part of the country's cultural wealth.

The third, often overlooked argument is value. In many Western European capitals you would pay double for a private spa treatment. Here a beer bath starts from 148 EUR for the whole room - that is one booking for one or two guests together, not per person. That makes Prague one of the most sensible destinations going for a couple who want to fold a long weekend around genuine rest.

And finally, the fourth point: the city's climate and rhythm. Prague works all year round. In winter, a warm soak at 35-38 °C is the perfect counterweight to a frosty walk; in spring and autumn an afternoon of relaxation slots neatly between trips to the parks; and in summer the baths offer welcome cool and shade. Whenever you come, the itinerary can be shaped to make sense - and for a wellness weekend, that is what matters most.

Where to stay, and why Dejvice earns its place

The neighbourhood you choose decides whether the weekend becomes rest or an exhausting dash from one point to the next. For a wellness stay we would steer you away from the heart of the Old Town Square, where noise, prices and tourist bustle all peak, and just a little further out. Prague 6, and Dejvice in particular, is the ideal middle ground - close enough to the sights, but with the calm of a residential quarter.

Dejvice was built during the First Republic as a stately quarter for civil servants and diplomats, and it still shows. Broad avenues, functionalist buildings, cafés where you can actually sit in peace, and plenty of greenery within reach. The Hvězda game reserve and the vast Stromovka park lie close by, so a morning walk under the trees is only a few minutes on foot. Around Vítězné náměstí you will find restaurants and bistros that cater to locals rather than tourists, and it shows in both the prices and the atmosphere.

Transport is the clincher. Hradčanská station sits on metro line A - the very same line that carries you straight to Prague Castle (Malostranská and Hradčanská are both within easy reach of it) and into the centre at Můstek. From Hradčanská to us at Lázně Pramen, Dejvická 255/18, is a two-minute walk. Which means you can spend a morning on culture in the centre and return for a spa treatment in the afternoon without any elaborate juggling of journeys.

When you book a room, look for a hotel or apartment near Hradčanská, Dejvická or Bořislavka. You will get a quiet night, quick connections into the centre and to us, and you will wake each morning in a district where the day can begin without stress. That calm is exactly what a standard tourist itinerary in the crowded centre can never deliver - and it is the raw material of every good wellness weekend.

The heart of the weekend: the beer and wine baths

However you shape the weekend, we would build it around a single spa treatment. That is the thing that turns an ordinary trip into a wellness weekend. Here you can choose between two headline experiences - the beer bath and the wine bath - and each has its own character.

The beer bath is a thoroughly Czech affair. Into a wooden tub with an automatic whirlpool we add, right in front of you, Saaz hops, malting barley and brewer's yeast, while beer flows from your own tap in the room - our exclusive craft Petrovické zlato. The water sits at 35-38 °C and the treatment is carefully paced: twenty minutes in the tub, then fifty minutes resting on a heated straw bed. Hops contain compounds traditionally valued for their calming effect, while the yeast and malt feed the skin with B vitamins. The beer bath starts from 148 EUR for the whole room, for one or two guests.

The wine bath is more sensual and better suited to a romantic evening. Into the tub go red wine, grape-seed extract, vine leaves, honey, herbs and French lavender flowers. The polyphenols and antioxidants in grapes are among the best things nature offers the skin, and a bottle of wine comes with the treatment in the room. The wine bath starts from 201 EUR for the whole booking.

If you arrive as a pair and cannot decide, we have an answer - a combination of beer and wine baths side by side. This is only possible in Zlatý pramen, the one room with two tubs at once, and it starts from 238 EUR for two to four guests. Each of you takes the bath you fancy while staying together.

  • Beer bath: hops, malt, yeast, unlimited beer from the tap, from 148 EUR per room
  • Wine bath: red wine, grape seed, lavender, a bottle of wine, from 201 EUR per room
  • Beer plus wine side by side: Zlatý pramen only, from 238 EUR for 2-4 guests
  • The format: 20 minutes in the tub plus 50 minutes resting on a straw bed

Choose your room to match the mood

We do not work on the logic of "the pricier the room, the better". The cost follows the tub configuration, not the room's name - each space has its own atmosphere and capacity, and you pick according to how you want the evening to go.

For a couple after intimacy, Rubínový pramen is ideal. It is the cosiest room, with a single larch tub and whirlpool, an electric fireplace whose warm glow settles the nerves, and a heated straw bed for resting. It seats one or two guests, and the beer bath here starts from 148 EUR for the whole booking - the same whether you come alone or as two sharing one tub.

If you are travelling as a group or want a tub each, reach for Zlatý pramen. This is our most spacious room, with two oak tubs, an electric fireplace and a heated straw bed, seating up to four guests. Only here do two tubs run at once, so this is where you can enjoy the beer-plus-wine combination or two beer baths side by side.

And for those who want to raise the experience to a genuine occasion, there is Smaragdový pramen - our V.I.P. room for one or two guests. All the premium rituals take place here, running 2.5 to 3 hours. They include a cedar phytobarrel, a small booth of Siberian cedar in which you sit with your body inside and your head out, wrapped in steam from herbal infusions. The V.I.P. Beer SPA here starts from 293 EUR, the V.I.P. Wine SPA from 326 EUR, and the most exclusive Delux Wine SPA - the only package that comes with a robe - from 326 EUR. These rituals are designed strictly for one or two guests: a slow, ceremonial experience for a couple or an individual, not a group event.

The salt cave and a massage as day two of the plan

A good wellness weekend needs rhythm. Once you have had your bath on the first day, the second is best rounded off with something gentler - a massage, or time in the salt cave. You will find both here in Safírový pramen, which is something else entirely. It is not a bathing room but a salt cave holding ten tonnes of salt in three kinds: rock, Dead Sea and Himalayan. Salt-clad walls, salt lamps and a hushed atmosphere create a setting in which the body slows down of its own accord.

This is where our massages take place. A relaxing back and neck massage runs 30 minutes and starts from 33 EUR, while a full-body relaxing massage with deeper work on the muscles lasts 60 minutes. For active people who want a more thorough release there is a 60-minute sports massage from 75 EUR. Pairing a massage with the salt environment feels good precisely because the cave's microclimate aids relaxation and the therapist tailors both technique and intensity to what you need.

We also offer pneumatic lymphatic drainage, or pressotherapy, which runs 45 minutes and starts from 23 EUR. It supports lymphatic flow and is welcome after days of walking the city - though it is a standalone service and cannot be combined with a bath within a single visit. Peat and mud wraps can be added too.

A small but essential word of advice for after your treatment: following either the beer or the wine bath, we recommend leaving the extract of rare ingredients unwashed by soap for roughly two hours. That keeps the skin softer and better nourished for a day or two. There is, of course, a shower in every room, but let the active compounds work as long as you can - it is the simplest way to stretch the experience beyond the doors of the spa.

How to plan your wellness weekend in Dejvice

Now let us pull it together into a concrete plan. Here is a two-day sketch that blends rest with culture but never hurries you along. Treat it as a template and adjust it freely to the weather and your mood.

Day one. Arrive around lunchtime, settle into a room near Hradčanská, and take an unhurried walk through Dejvice and the neighbouring Stromovka park. In the afternoon ride metro line A to Malostranská and wander around Prague Castle and the Malá Strana while the light holds. The evening belongs to the bath. We would book a later slot - we are open until 22:00 on Fridays and until 23:00 at weekends, so you can enjoy a wine bath as a calm close to the day. Afterwards it is a short walk back to your room and a deep sleep.

Day two. A morning without an alarm, a slow breakfast in one of the Dejvice cafés, and a lighter programme - perhaps a gallery or a walk along the Vltava. Round the afternoon off with a massage or time in the salt cave at Safírový pramen, so you leave genuinely unwound. If you come as a group of more than eight, we handle it with staggered start times - one part at 17:00, say, and the other at 19:00. The maximum capacity of the bathing rooms within a single hour is eight guests.

Booking is straightforward. You pick your date, the number of guests and the type of bath through the online reservation form on our website, and the whole thing takes a minute. If you are unsure which room to choose, or you are planning a stay for a larger party, get in touch through our contact page and we will happily help you put the weekend together. We would advise booking well ahead, especially for weekend evenings, which fill up first.

  • Open: Monday to Friday 10:00-22:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00-23:00
  • Address: Dejvická 255/18, Prague 6 - Dejvice, two minutes from Hradčanská metro
  • Bathing-room capacity within a single hour: up to 8 guests
  • Book online through the form; for larger groups we recommend staggered times

A gift voucher, and a few last words for the road

A wellness weekend in Prague need not be only for you. If you are looking for a gift for someone who deserves to rest, our gift voucher is one of the simplest answers. We issue it digitally with twelve months' validity, and the recipient chooses their own treatment - beer bath, wine bath, massage or a premium ritual in Smaragdový pramen. It is a practical present for an anniversary, a birthday, or simply as a gesture without a reason.

The voucher also neatly solves the moment when you invite someone on a shared weekend but do not want them to pay. You give the experience, you agree the date together, and the rest of the stay is only about enjoying Prague. For couples marking an anniversary we would point you to the V.I.P. rituals in Smaragdový pramen - two and a half to three hours of ceremonial slowing down, cedar phytobarrel and all, turns an ordinary weekend into a genuine occasion.

And a few practical notes to finish. Arrive at the spa with time to spare so you are not rushing - the whole point of the treatment lies in slowing down. Pack looser clothes for the journey home, and do not count on racing off to another activity after your soak; far better to let the evening ease to a close. And, as we mentioned, do not shower off the beer or wine extract straight away - let your skin breathe for a couple of hours.

If the health side of the treatments interests you, a full overview of the contraindications is set out in our terms and conditions. Beyond that we will add only this: a well-planned spa weekend in Prague is one of the best investments in your own wellbeing you can make. Come to Dejvice, run yourself a warm bath, breathe, and let the city take care of the rest. We look forward to welcoming you to Lázně Pramen.
