Why aftercare matters more than you think

Most guests assume the best part of a spa treatment ends the moment they step out of the tub and towel off. In reality, the opposite is true. What you do in the first two hours - and over the next two days - often determines whether the effect fades by dinner or stays with you right through the weekend. The treatment is not only about the immediate pleasure of warmth. It works on several levels at once: skin that has been gently heated, active ingredients absorbed into the upper layers of the skin, muscles that have let go of tension, and a nervous system that has finally shifted down a gear. Every one of those effects can either be supported afterwards or undone surprisingly quickly.

In the beer spa treatment, the bath is enriched with Saaz hops, brewer's yeast and malt. In the wine spa treatment, the blend includes red wine, grape seed extract, vine leaves, honey and French lavender flowers. During twenty minutes in water kept at 35-38 °C, pores open and these ingredients settle into the skin's upper layers. Wash them straight off with soap and you lose much of what they are there to do. That is exactly why Lázně Pramen advises guests not to rinse the extract from the skin immediately after the bath.

The heat itself matters just as much. It dilates blood vessels, boosts circulation through the muscles and activates the parasympathetic nervous system - the part responsible for rest, repair and calm. That state cannot be rushed. If you leave the treatment and head straight back into traffic, cold wind, messages and calls, the body slips back into alert mode within minutes and the accumulated benefit starts to dissipate. Think of this article as a practical guide to protecting each layer of the treatment's effect and stretching it as far as possible. No elaborate rituals, no expensive products - just a few smart decisions, and a few equally important things not to do, that make the difference between "that was nice" and "I still feel fantastic tomorrow."

The golden rule: no soap for two hours

The single most useful piece of advice is also the simplest: for roughly two hours after your treatment, avoid soap and shower gel. Every room has its own shower, whether you are in Rubínový pramen, Zlatý pramen or the VIP Smaragdový pramen. If you need to, you can rinse lightly with lukewarm water. What should not be rushed is the soap. That fine layer of hop, yeast and wine-based ingredients left on the skin continues to do its work after you leave the tub. Strip it off immediately with a foamy washcloth and you remove the very thing you came for.

The active ingredients in the beer spa treatment include B vitamins, which help nourish the skin and support its natural barrier. Grape seed extract in the wine bath is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, known for their protective effect against oxidative stress in the skin. To do their job properly - reaching a little deeper and helping the skin hold onto moisture - they need time. Two hours without soap is the minimum, and it is often enough to keep the skin feeling smoother and more supple for one to two days after your visit.

There is a practical implication here when planning your evening. Try to book your treatment before a quiet stretch of time, not before a swim, a sweaty commute or anything hectic. Ideally, you head home, change into loose cotton clothing and let the skin breathe. If you really do need water, keep it to a quick lukewarm rinse and avoid scrubbing. Skip exfoliants, rough mitts and strongly perfumed body oils that could disturb the film on the skin. Your usual evening wash can wait a little. By morning, you will notice softer skin and less residual tension in the body. This one rule does more for the longevity of the treatment than any premium cream, simply because it allows the natural blend added to your bath - right in front of you - to keep working.

Drinking and eating: support the body from within

Twenty minutes in water at 35-38 °C, followed by fifty minutes of rest on a heated straw bed, warms the body thoroughly and naturally encourages fluid loss. That is why hydration matters after the bath. It need not be complicated. In the hours that follow, drink still water, unsweetened herbal tea or mineral water. You are simply replacing fluids, helping the body clear what was released during the warming process, and reducing the heavy-headed feeling that can sometimes follow a sauna or hot bath.

With the beer spa treatment, unlimited draft beer is part of the room experience. It is enjoyable, and it belongs to the ritual, but alcohol is still dehydrating. The easiest approach is to alternate - a glass of beer, then a glass of water. In the wine spa treatment, a bottle of wine is served in the room, and the VIP wine packages also include a platter of fruit and cheeses. The same principle applies. Sip the wine slowly and do not forget water in between. Moderation, somewhat paradoxically, extends the pleasure because you wake up feeling fresh rather than depleted.

  • Within the first hour after the bath, drink at least one to two large glasses of water.
  • Match each serving of beer or wine with the same amount of water.
  • Choose light food - fruit, cheese, nuts - rather than anything heavy or greasy.
  • Avoid coffee and energy drinks, which push the nervous system back into overdrive.
  • Before bed, opt for herbal tea, ideally chamomile or lemon balm.

Light food matters for another reason too. After intense warmth, digestion tends to slow down, and a rich meal can turn pleasant drowsiness into discomfort. The fruit and cheese platter served with the wine treatments is ideal in that respect: enough to restore energy, not enough to weigh you down. If you want the effect to last as long as possible, keep dinner light after the spa and have your main meal earlier in the day, before the treatment begins.

Rest and sleep: the body's best ally

The fifty minutes spent on a heated straw bed are not filler in the schedule. They are a central part of the treatment. During that rest period, the body completes what the heat has set in motion: blood vessels remain dilated, muscles continue to release tension, and the nervous system settles further into a restorative state. If you want the effect to last, the best thing you can do is avoid interrupting it with an abrupt return to a busy evening. We always suggest keeping the post-spa hours light - no demanding plans, no stressful meetings, no long cross-city journeys if you can help it. The ideal sequence is simple: treatment, an unhurried trip home, a quiet evening and an early night.

Warming the body has a well-documented effect on sleep onset. As core temperature gradually drops after the bath, the body receives a natural cue that it is time to sleep. A number of sleep studies describe this mechanism, which is one reason warm bathing before bed is so often recommended for people who struggle to fall asleep. The effect of both our beer and wine spa treatments therefore goes beyond loosened muscles. Very often, it carries over into deeper, better-quality sleep, which is of course one of the most effective forms of recovery there is.

To help the warmth and calm stay with you after you get home, keep the rest of the evening simple:

  1. Change into loose, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics.
  2. Dim the lights and put away your phone and laptop at least an hour before bed.
  3. Keep the bedroom on the cooler side so the body can complete its natural cooling process.
  4. Skip exercise and household chores that would push your heart rate back up.
  5. Allow yourself a little more sleep than usual - the body often rests more deeply after heat exposure.

That is why many of our guests choose a late afternoon or evening slot. We are open until 22:00 on weekdays and until 23:00 at weekends, making it easy to time your visit so it flows naturally into a calm night. If you want to take the sense of release a step further, consider adding a massage in the salt cave, where muscle relaxation can be deepened even further.

Your skin in the following days: how to keep the softness

That soft, supple feeling in the skin after a bath is not a coincidence. The B vitamins in the beer spa treatment and the polyphenols from grape seeds in the wine spa treatment help support the skin's protective barrier and improve moisture retention. If you follow a few straightforward rules over the next one to two days, that velvety feel lasts noticeably longer than it would if you went straight back to harsh cleansing and overworked skin.

For the first twenty-four hours, the skin is particularly primed to hold onto moisture. Help it along by avoiding very hot showers, long periods in chlorinated water and any vigorous scrubbing with rough cloths or mitts. For normal washing, choose a gentle cleanser without aggressive surfactants, and when you dry off, pat the skin rather than rubbing it hard with a towel. Afterwards, a simple fragrance-free moisturiser is a good idea - it seals in hydration and complements the work already done by the bath.

The antioxidants in the wine extract help counter oxidative stress, one of the processes linked to premature skin ageing. Their effect lingers for a while, so it makes sense to support it from the inside too with a varied diet rich in fruit, vegetables and healthy fats. Healthy skin is always the result of overall care, not a single external treatment in isolation.

  • For the first 48 hours, avoid exfoliants and rough washcloths.
  • Choose lukewarm showers rather than hot ones.
  • After washing, apply an unscented moisturiser.
  • Protect the skin from drying wind and overheated indoor air.
  • Drink plenty of water - skin hydration starts from within.

Many guests say that after a VIP treatment such as Smaragdový pramen, with its cedar phyto-sauna and massage, the feeling of warm, silky skin is still there the next morning. That is exactly the effect this kind of aftercare is designed to extend. It is not magic. It is simply a matter of letting natural ingredients finish their work and not cutting them short with unnecessarily aggressive skincare.

Extend the effect with massage and the salt cave

If you want not just to preserve the effect of the bath but to deepen it, the most natural next step is to pair it with a massage or time in the salt cave. Both are available in Safírový pramen, our salt cave with ten tonnes of salt - rock salt, Dead Sea salt and Himalayan salt. It is not a bathing room but a dedicated space with a massage table, salt lamps and an unhurried atmosphere, making it an ideal follow-on from the warmth of a beer or wine spa treatment.

A relaxing back-and-neck massage or full-body massage works especially well when the muscles are already warm and softened. Heat from the bath prepares the tissue, allowing the therapist to work more effectively and more comfortably, often reaching deeper without provoking that familiar reflex tension. The combination of warmth and touch prolongs the calming effect on the nervous system, which is one reason so many guests still feel rested the following day. Our relaxation massage is available in a 30-minute version from 33 EUR and a 60-minute version from 50 EUR per guest. A 60-minute sports massage starts from 75 EUR. These prices apply to the specific treatment for one guest.

We also offer a 45-minute machine lymphatic drainage treatment from 23 EUR, designed to support lymph flow and create a lighter feeling in the legs. This procedure cannot be combined with a bath during the same visit, however - it is a standalone service, so if it appeals, it is best booked for a separate appointment. The salt cave environment itself is also pleasant for the airways and adds another layer of relaxation through its calm, gently saline atmosphere.

If you are after a full evening of care, the best choice is the VIP treatment in Smaragdový pramen, where a cedar phyto-sauna, massage or peeling, bath and final rest period follow one another in sequence. VIP Beer SPA starts from 293 EUR and VIP Wine SPA from 326 EUR per booking for one or two guests. This kind of layered treatment is the most effective way to extend warmth, muscular release and that freshly softened skin for as long as possible.

The most common mistakes that shorten the effect

Often, it only takes a few small decisions for the post-bath glow to disappear sooner than it should. Knowing the common mistakes is therefore just as useful as knowing what to do right, because avoiding them is usually what makes the real difference. The list below comes from our team's experience as well as what guests themselves tell us after their visits.

  • Washing with soap straight away. The most common mistake of all. If you scrub off the active layer immediately after the bath, you lose the film of ingredients that was meant to stay on the skin. Wait about two hours.
  • Taking a hot shower after the treatment. Your body is already thoroughly warmed, and more heat simply overloads it. If you rinse at all, keep it lukewarm.
  • Going straight back into a busy schedule. If calm is replaced at once by calls, stress and constant movement, the parasympathetic slowdown disappears almost instantly.
  • Forgetting to hydrate. After heat exposure, the body needs fluids. Without them, fatigue and headaches are much more likely.
  • Too much alcohol. Unlimited beer with the beer spa treatment and a bottle of wine with the wine spa treatment are part of the pleasure, but without alternating with water they can leave you feeling flat the next day.
  • A heavy, fatty dinner. It burdens digestion and turns pleasant relaxation into discomfort.
  • An aggressive exfoliation the next day. This disrupts the protective layer encouraged by the bath and shortens the skin-softening effect.

It is also worth mentioning whether the treatment is suitable in the first place. Our baths and massages are not appropriate for everyone. A full list of contraindications - including cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, acute inflammation and fever, open wounds, or allergies to bath ingredients - can be found in our terms and conditions, specifically Article 9. If you are unsure, it is always better to check in advance than to deal with discomfort afterwards.

Most of these mistakes have one thing in common: haste. A spa treatment is, fundamentally, an invitation to slow down, and its benefits are tied to that slower pace. If you set aside not just the treatment itself but also the calm evening that should follow it, you will do more for the longevity of the result than any cream or supplement could. The best aftercare is often simply allowing the body to finish, in peace, what the bath began.

Book yourself a calm evening at Lázně Pramen

Now that you know how to make the effect of the bath last as long as possible, there is only one thing left to do: book it. You will find us at Dejvická 255/18 in Prague 6, just a two-minute walk from Hradčanská metro station. We are open from 10:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 23:00 at weekends, so it is easy to choose a late afternoon or evening slot that flows naturally into a quiet night and better sleep - one of the key ways to extend the benefits, as you now know.

For two people, the intimate Rubínový pramen is an ideal choice, with one larch whirlpool tub, an electric fireplace and a heated straw bed. The beer spa treatment here starts from 148 EUR per booking, while the wine spa treatment, with a bottle of wine served in the room, starts from 201 EUR. These prices apply to the room booking as a whole, whether you come alone or as a pair. For larger groups, Zlatý pramen is the better fit, with two tubs that allow two different baths at once - whether that means a beer-and-wine combo from 238 EUR or two matching treatments.

If you would like the experience to last longer while you are still with us, choose a VIP treatment in Smaragdový pramen with its cedar phyto-sauna, where the bath is followed by massage and a longer rest period, or add a massage in Safírový pramen. You can browse the full range on our all treatments page.

If you are planning to treat someone else, a gift voucher is the easiest answer. Our gift voucher is digital, valid for twelve months, and lets the recipient choose both the treatment and the date. You can arrange your booking in moments via the form on the booking page, and if you have any questions at all, please get in touch through our contact page. We look forward to helping you turn a lovely hour into a day - or even two - of wellbeing that follows you home.
