The Warm Bath Paradox: Why Spa Works Even at +35°C

First thought: why get into warm water when it's already hot outside? Logic says no. But physiology says the opposite.

When you immerse yourself in a bath at 35–38°C, the body reacts just as it does in a Finnish sauna: blood vessels dilate, blood flow increases, and the skin begins actively releasing heat. A study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology showed that after passive heating in warm water, core body temperature drops below baseline – the body "overshoots" during cooling. Simply put: after a warm bath you feel cooler than before it.

This effect is well known in Scandinavian countries, where a sauna at +80°C is standard practice even in summer months. At Lázně Pramen the bath is gentler (35–38°C), and 20–30 minutes in a whirlpool tub is enough to trigger thermoregulation without stressing the body.

Beer Bath in Summer: Hops, Malt and Cold Beer

In summer the beer bath takes on special meaning. You sit in a 1,000-litre oak tub at 35–38°C – Žatec hops, malt and brewer's yeast are added right in front of you. Hops contain essential oils with sedative and anti-inflammatory effects – after a day in the sun they soothe irritated skin. Brewer's yeast delivers B vitamins to the skin and speeds up regeneration.

And here's the key moment: next to the tub is a tap with unlimited cold Czech Bernard beer. The contrast of a warm bath and ice-cold beer is a sensation you simply cannot replicate at home.

After the bath – rest on a bed of fresh wheat straw by the fireplace. The active compounds from hops and yeast continue working on your skin. We recommend not rinsing the mixture off for 2 hours – the effect of soft, nourished skin will last for several days.

Prices: from €129 for 1–2 guests in the Ruby Spring room, from €165 for 2–4 guests in Golden Spring (two tubs).

Wine Bath in Summer: Antioxidants After Sun

Summer sun is the main source of free radicals for the skin. And this is exactly where the wine bath becomes truly relevant. Polyphenols from red wine and OPC extract from grape seeds are among the most powerful natural antioxidants. A study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology confirms: resveratrol (a polyphenol from grape skins) protects the skin from UV damage and speeds up recovery.

Red wine, grape seed and skin extracts, honey, medicinal herb extracts and French lavender flowers are added to the bath right in front of you. The water turns a rich ruby colour with a light grape aroma. The treatment includes a bottle of red or white wine of your choice and a fruit-and-cheese platter.

Prices: from €183 for 1–2 guests. Want different baths side by side? "Two in One": beer + wine in one room – from €238 for two.

Massage in the Salt Cave: Natural Coolness

The salt cave at Lázně Pramen is a story of its own on a hot day. The walls are lined with three types of natural salt: pink Himalayan, Dead Sea salt and Polish mine salt. The cave's microclimate is naturally cooler than the rest of the premises, and salt aerosols clear the airways – a noticeable relief after a dusty summer city.

Three types of massage to choose from: relaxation back-and-neck massage (30 min, from €33), full-body relaxation massage (60 min, from €50) and sports massage for those who spend summer actively (60 min, €75).

The massage takes place before the bath – it warms the muscles and accelerates circulation, so the active compounds from the beer or wine bath are absorbed more effectively. In V.I.P. packages the massage is already included in the price.

Five Tips for a Summer Visit

1. Drink water before and after. A warm bath increases perspiration – drink a glass of water 30 minutes before the treatment and afterwards. Beer and wine do not replace water.

2. Come in the morning or evening. On hot days the ideal time is before 12:00 or after 18:00. The journey to the spa will be more comfortable, and the cooling effect after the bath – even more noticeable.

3. Don't sunbathe right before your visit. Sunburnt skin reacts painfully to warm water. If you spent the day in the sun, give your skin at least 4–6 hours to rest.

4. Don't eat heavily. A light snack an hour before the treatment is enough. A heavy lunch + warm bath = discomfort.

5. Don't rush afterwards. Rest on the straw bed by the fireplace is not time-limited (within the treatment). In summer after the bath your body is in a state of deep relaxation – give it 20–30 minutes before heading back out into the heat.
