Why men are discovering wellness

Wellness has long stopped being a women-only domain. According to the Global Wellness Institute, men in Europe today make up roughly half of all spa visitors – and that share keeps growing year on year. The reason is simple: high workload, too little movement, chronic stress, and a real need for a place where you can actually switch off.

Lázně Pramen in Prague's Dejvice district offers private wellness that men actually enjoy: no shared pools, no strangers, just you – or you with your partner or mates – in your own stone chamber. Add to that beer on tap right next to the bath, hand-picked oak tubs, a wheat-straw bed and the warmth of an electric fireplace. In short: a spa where a man feels at home.

Beer bath: beer on tap right next to your bath

Our flagship and most popular procedure for men. The beer bath takes place in a hand-picked oak or larch tub filled with a mix of warm water, beer, malt, hops and live brewer's yeast. Right next to the tub is a beer tap – yes, a real tap, from which during the 20–30-minute bath you can pour yourself unlimited Czech beer straight into a glass.

What does a beer bath actually do to your body? The science-backed effects:

  • B-group vitamins from the yeast – brewer's yeast is one of the richest natural sources of thiamine, riboflavin and niacin (PubMed), which support skin regeneration.
  • Hop polyphenols – have calming and anti-inflammatory effects described in European research on beer and health (European Beer & Health).
  • Heat therapy – water at 35–37 °C relaxes muscles, eases tension in the back and improves circulation (Cleveland Clinic).
  • Automatic whirlpool – massages the back, shoulders and legs during the bath.

After the bath comes about 50 minutes of rest on a bed of fresh wheat straw by the fireplace – a passive phase during which the active compounds from hops and yeast continue to work on the skin while the body relaxes. Ideal for men with heavy legs from long office sitting or sore muscles after the gym. A detailed step-by-step guide is in the article How a beer bath works step by step.

Wine bath: skincare men will appreciate too

The myth that the wine bath is "just for women" is finally over. Resveratrol and polyphenols from red wine deliver a powerful antioxidant effect – they help fight free radicals, calm the skin and support its elasticity (NIH MedlinePlus).

For men, that translates into:

  • smoother skin after shaving
  • less oily skin and tighter pores
  • recovery after sun or cold exposure
  • the scent of wine instead of chlorine and aftershave

The wine bath is a strong choice for an anniversary, a romantic evening with your partner, or simply when you want something other than beer. Duration and tub setup are identical to the beer bath – only the bath itself is wine-based. More on the effects in Wine baths: effects on the skin.

Two in one: beer and wine bath together

For a men's outing or for couples with different preferences, we offer the Two in one procedure – two tubs side by side in one room, one beer, one wine. Each gets their own. Shared time, no compromise.

Massages: relief from stress and sports strain

After the bath – or instead of it – we recommend a massage. At Lázně Pramen we offer:

  • Classic recovery massage, 30 or 60 minutes – releases the neck and lower-back muscles
  • Sports massage – for regular trainees, deep release of larger muscle groups
  • Reflex foot massage – ideal after a long day or a long drive

A massage after a beer or wine bath is the combination from which the male body benefits most – the warmth from the bath softens muscle fibres and the therapist can then work deeper. Mayo Clinic describes massage as a proven tool for reducing stress, anxiety and muscle tension. More in Massages: types and effects.

Post-sport recovery: a concrete scenario

Many of our male clients come in after football, hockey, the gym or a long ride. The combination of beer bath + massage works on three levels:

  1. Heat therapy – warm water speeds up lactate clearance and muscle perfusion
  2. Whirlpool micro-massage – mechanically releases tension across larger muscle groups
  3. Hydration inside and out – brewer's yeast on the skin, water between baths

Stress after a working week

The beer spa is a popular Friday tradition for men working in offices around Prague 6 – Dejvice, Bubeneč and beyond. An hour in a private room levels out cortisol, releases the neck and shoulder tension typical of "office posture", and sends you into the weekend properly reset. Private rooms: four rooms, four characters

We have four private rooms – three for beer and wine baths and one with a salt cave. Each has its own character, so you choose by mood, group size or occasion.

Zlatý pramen (Golden Spring) – the most spacious room with two oak tubs with whirlpool, for 2–4 guests. The tubs can be filled differently: both with beer, both with wine, or one with beer and the other with wine. Ideal for a men's outing, birthday celebration, or whenever you want to try both procedures in a single visit.

Rubínový pramen (Ruby Spring) – the most intimate room with one larch tub with whirlpool, for 1–2 guests. Brick vaults, total quiet, nothing superfluous – just you, the warm bath and the old-world atmosphere.

Smaragdový pramen (Emerald Spring) – V.I.P. room with an extended offering. A Siberian larch tub with whirlpool plus a Siberian cedar phyto-sauna: a mini-sauna of Siberian cedar with healing steam from herbal infusions (your head stays outside). For 1–2 guests, an excellent choice for an anniversary or a V.I.P. package with massage.

All three bath rooms also include an electric fireplace, a bed of fresh wheat straw, a private shower, a changing area, and drinks included.

Safírový pramen (Sapphire Spring) is the fourth, distinctly different room – a real salt cave built from 10 tonnes of salt of three kinds: rock salt, Dead Sea salt and Himalayan salt. Walls, ceiling and floor are all made of salt. No baths take place here – instead we offer massages, lymphatic drainage and halotherapy in a unique mineral-rich microclimate. Ideal after a workout, during seasonal respiratory fatigue, or as a calm complement to a beer bath in the next room.

If you'd like to try everything – beer bath, phyto-sauna and massage in the salt cave – take a look at the All procedures programme.

Etiquette and three scenarios for visiting

Most men show up on their first visit asking "what should I bring?" Short answer: nothing. Swimwear and towels are provided on site, beer and water are included in the price, leave your phone in the changing room. Detailed guide in What to wear to the spa.

1. After work or on the weekend – on your own or with your partner, an hour of silence without your phone, beer on tap and an oak tub. Ideal for a Friday or a Sunday.

2. Men's outing – 2–4 men, the "Two in one" combination, no one's counting beers. A great call for a birthday, a stag night or a weekend tradition.

3. A gift for the man who has everything – a gift voucher covering a specific procedure or a chosen amount. A practical experience gift for birthdays, anniversaries or Christmas.
